The origins of FlumetA few steps from Megève, the typical Savoyard village of Flumet has a rich history, which is due to its strategic location at the gates of Faucigny. In the 12th century, the castle and the fortified town were erected. The latter experienced rapid economic growth in the Middle Ages and enjoyed significant autonomy within the seigneury of Faucigny. It retains this autonomy when the province is attached to Savoy in the 14th century. The 17th century was marked by a catastrophe: a colossal fire which ravaged the village and destroyed the castle. The village will experience other dark hours during the Revolution, when it will be looted by revolutionary troops. In the 19th century, after the annexation of Savoy by France, the special situation of Flumet, at the limit of the free zone concluded with Switzerland, made its territory a high ground for contraband. The 20th century is finally the era of the advent of tourism and winter sports in the Val d'Arly: the Flumet-Mont-Blanc resort is created straddling the territories of the municipalities of Flumet and Saint-Nicolas -la-Chapelle. In 2005, the family resort was linked to the neighboring estates of Les Saisies, Crest-Voland, Praz-sur-Arly and Notre-Dame-de-Bellecombe to form the Espace Diamant super-domain.The essentials of FlumetPicturesque Savoyard village whose old and newer chalets extend from 800 to 2,500 meters above sea level, Flumet is a resort-setting whose landscapes of mountain pastures, forests and mineral backdrops crossed by flowing waters are dominated by the tall silhouette of Mont Blanc. Winter and summer resort, Flumet is attractive for its ski area connected to the heart of the Espace Diamant, but also for its mountain biking trails, marked hiking trails and its body of water designed for swimming. The village retains from its medieval past its Saint-Théodule church, whose feudal bell tower dates from the 12th century, fortified houses, as well as an old mill and the miller's house which are the subject of guided tours. The ruins of the castle of the Sires of Faucigny are a reminder that the village was once the center of an important châtellenie, with an eminently strategic geopolitical position.Partly focused on the tourist industry, Flumet's economy has retained a significant agro-pastoral component because its territory benefits from the Beaufort and Reblochon AOCs. The year at Flumet is marked by unmissable events throughout the Arly Valley, from performances by the local folk group to the carriage festival, including the mule fair and the foal competition.Living in FlumetBetween the courses of Arly and Arrondine, Flumet is a destination to experience in summer as in winter. The lucky ones who live in its territory year round taste the authentic charm of mountain life, while enjoying the quality of the leisure and sports facilities on a daily basis. The atmosphere of the mountain village is energized by its multi-seasonal tourist vocation. 10 km from the center of Megève, 20 km from Saint-Gervais and Albertville and 30 km from Lake Annecy, Flumet is ideally located for getting around the mountains.Living in Flumet allows you to enjoy both a bucolic setting and the presence of numerous shops: renowned bars and restaurants, farm sales, general food and regional products, hairdressing, wellness, sports shops, among many other stores open year round. The service offering is also well developed, with a postal agency, a library, a nursery and primary school as well as a prestigious international school. The territory of Flumet is home to old farms renovated with excellence and luxury chalets with traditional architecture.
