The charm of the village
Megève is known for its high quality of life and its sense of style. It has managed to preserve its charm and enjoys a privileged location facing Mont Blanc. Only one hour’s drive from Geneva, Megève was made famous by the Rothschild family, who made the village a tourist destination in the 1920s. The opulence of that period exists to this day. Megève continues to offer an unparalleled vacation experience, be it for winter sports or after-ski.
In the heart of the village, the historic buildings have stood the test of time. The beautiful old farms of the surrounding pastures have inspired superb modern chalets. There is always something going on in the bustling village centre. However, visitors can retreat to absolute peace and calm in magnificent chalets in the surrounding hamlets. Mont d’Arbois, for example, is perfect for the golf course and provides easy access to the heliport. Rochebrune is ideal for those looking for ski in/ski out access to the best pistes. And the Jaillet basks in the sunshine and offers spectacular views in any season.
Tourism in Megève
A wander through the village’s lanes, to the sound of horse-drawn carriages, reveals luxury boutiques, award-winning restaurants and the most luxurious spas. Megève offers a mosaic of neighbourhoods filled with wood and stone chalets, which are typical of the valley.
The station
Far from being a sleepy mountain village, Megève is a vibrant place in all seasons thanks to an array of events throughout the year. The Snow Polo and Snow Golf Cup in winter, and the renowned International Show Jumping competition in summer, showcase top international athletes in original surroundings. Live music festivals throughout the year (classical, jazz and blues) are among the village’s cultural highlights.
Skiing area
The skiing options in Megève will please beginners and experts alike, especially with the ‘Mont Blanc Unlimited’ season pass, new in 2016, giving access to a vast skiing area. In addition to the 450 km of runs in the ‘Evasion Mont-Blanc’ area, the new pass allows skiers to enjoy the legendary pistes of Chamonix, Courmayeur in Italy and Verbier/4 Vallées in Switzerland.
Megève is chic yet discreet, traditional yet forward-looking, and always full of surprises.
